5 Fixes for Facebook Messenger Calls Not Ringing on Mobile

If your smartphone’s Facebook Messenger calls are not ringing, try these tips to resolve the issue quickly. Most probably, it is a setting or some bug that can be easily quashed. Let us show how.

Before You Begin

1. Unmute Individual Contact From Messenger

Sometimes someone can call you impulsively or at the wrong time forcing you to mute their calls for good. You may have forgotten about it.

2. Check Messenger’s DND Mode

Your phone is not the only app with DND settings. Messenger has its own DND option which when enabled will silence incoming calls and notifications for chat messages.

3. Disable ‘Play While Using App’ Option

This is a confusing setting that restricts notifications for messages and incoming calls only when you use the app. If the app is not in active use, notifications will be silenced.

Go back tothree-bar icon > cog icon > Notifications & soundsand disablePlay while using app option.

4. Check Phone’s Sound Settings

Both Android and iPhone allow users to disable notifications including calls on the app level. Though they are enabled by default, you may have disabled them and forgotten all about it.

On iPhone, go toSettings > Messenger > Notificationsand enableAllow Notifications.

On Samsung or other Android phones, go toApps > Messenger > Notificationsand make sureAllow notificationsis enabled and thenAllow sound and vibrationis also enabled.

5. Enable Background Refresh

If Facebook Messenger lacks the necessary permissions to run in the background, theapp may fail to ring for calls and messages. Here’s how you’re able to change that.

Go toSettings > Messengerand enableBackground App Refresh.

Long-press on the app icon, selecti (info)icon, tap onBattery, and select eitherOptimizedorUnrestricted.
