Anne Hathaway Fell In Love With The Film’s Script
According toAnne Hathaway, she was enamored with the script ofThe Devil Wears Pradafrom the moment she read it, but the production company had other options besides her in mind, which posed a challenge.
“We started negotiating with Annie to make a deal, and that didn’t go well with the studio.… We offered it to Rachel McAdams three times. The studio was determined to have her, and she was determined not to do it,”director David Frankel once told Entertainment Weekly.

Popsugar had reported that other renowned actresses such as Claire Danes and Juliette Lewis were also considered for the part. Nevertheless, Hathaway’s perseverance paid off, and she eventually landed the coveted role of Andy Sachs. The actress admitted that this was the most challenging film for her to secure a role in.
Hathaway’s portrayal of Andy received critical acclaim, and the film became a financial hit. Meryl Streep said that the film’s success instigated changes in the movie industry, especially in terms of featuring more female-dominated characters.

Anne Hathaway Wanted A Sequel To The Film
As a fan of sequels herself, Hathaway would have relished the idea of a follow-up to her hit film. She even personally nagged executives to know if a second movie was in the works following the success of the first one. Despite discussions of a possible sequel toThe Devil Wears Pradafollowing its success, the filmmaker believed it was best to keep it as a standalone movie.
“I remember calling them after the fervour had died out in America, and Meryl Streep and I were on a press tour in Europe. I was having such a fun time talking about it all that I called up the executives at Fox who had championed it and I said, ‘Can we just come up with a story please?’ And they said ‘We’re working on it,'”Hathaway once told MTV News.

Hathaway acknowledged that the world has changed a lot since the release ofThe Devil Wears Prada. She believed that these changes might pose a challenge to making a sequel to the film, given the differences between the media of the mid-2000s and that of the current decade.
