Not just because he’s one of the oldest superheroes to exist in the world of comic books, but the pop culture aficionados love Batman because he’s so much more than just a hero. All the ups and downs in his life along with everything he has done as the caped crusader culminate to form an identity that everyone can get behind.

But just as equally as he’s loved by the fandom, so are the villains that he has faced in his lifetime under the cowl, and The Joker exceeds all of them by a significant margin. But after the release of Batman’s 2020 comic series, fans were shocked to see that The Clown’s obsession with him may not be because of hate, but because of love.
DC Comics Confirmed That The Joker Is In Love With Batman
Ever since the world was introduced to the Caped Crusader of Gotham City, there has always been the presence of The Joker lurking in the shadows close by. Hailed as the arch-nemesis of Batman, the contributions of the deranged Clown Prince of Gotham’s underworld have shaped the character of Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter-ego in every minor and major way possible.
But with the release of the last issue of the seriesBatman: Three Jokers,DC detonated a bomb in the fandom that had the fans going bonkers over a theory long hypothesized.

In the third installment of the series, we saw the two Jokers trying to make the third and last version of themselves by trying to submerge Joe Chill, the man responsible for the death of Wayne’s parents into the ACE Joker chemicals. While this may have seemed like another one of The Clown’s twisted schemes to rule the underworld or stir up trouble, it was shockingly meant as a gift to his arch-nemesis.
In the following panels, Joker reveals that he wants to gift more of himself to Batman because he wants himself to mean far more to him than just enemies in his life. This confirmed a long-running theory that he might be in love with Batman, which is highlighted by this sentence (viaScreenRant):

“I want you to know why I’m making a new Joker, Batman. Because I want to mean more to you. More to you than anyone.”
Considering his almost lethal obsession with The Bat throughout the years along with his aforementioned revelation, fans believe that DC Comics gave the fans the answers that they were looking for. However, the meaning of love for him in relation to Batman can be a version of his own twisted imagination.

What Is TheBatman: Three JokersSeries About?
The 2020 series followed the tales of Batman as he finds out that Joker has killed the entire Moxon crime family of Gotham City while simultaneously killing a famous comedian at the same time. This leads Batman to look into the motives of The Clown while Batgirl looks into the comedian’s murder and Red Hood hunts for Joker.
Each of their investigations comes to the conclusion that these murders were just a diversion so that The Clown Prince of Crime could steal the ACE chemicals that turned him into what he is. Here, Batman also confirms his suspicions that there is more than one Joker among them.
