PopularCall of Dutystreamer Censor has been banned from Twitch after he used a homophobic slur during one of his streams. Even after apologizing for his behavior, it seems that Twitch guidelines are strict enough to ban someone over this, despite Censor having 283k followers.

Doug ‘Censor’ Martin’s Twitch channel had 283K followers before he was banned.

Social media hasn’t been responding well to Censor’s recent behavior, especially after he also made false accusations against another streamer, Nadia.

Despite All the Apologies, Getting Banned Was Inevitable

During one of hisCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2live stream, Doug ‘Censor’ Martin couldn’t handle losing to another player and decided to cuss instead. Shortly after, he made a video apologizing for his actions. In the video, he explained how he let someone else get the better of him and he felt horrible about it. He was also concerned his behavior might be copied in the future by one of his fans, considering how he did it and gave out the message that it’s okay for him to do such things.

However, even after an apology video, there was no escaping the strictTwitch guidelines. Which read:

Despite being banned, Censor’s legacy lives on through his own Call of Duty skin.

Use hateful slurs, either untargeted or directed towards another individual. We allow certain words or terms, which might otherwise violate our policy, to be used in an empowering way or as terms of endearment when such intent is clear. We also make exceptions for slurs in music—and singing along to music—as long as the song itself is not hateful and the slurs are not combined with other discriminating or denigratingcontent.

Even though the online e-sports community has a reputation for this kind of behavior, as of late, platforms like Twitch and YouTube have been quite strict about policies regarding racial slurs and harassment. Accordingly, streamers are likely to get banned for going against the policy.

While many consider his behavior entirely unacceptable, other comments and Twitter threads promote the idea of neglecting such slurs and just being desensitized to hurtful language. Thus, you’ll likely notice more and more streamers and creators getting banned on popular streaming platforms. However, this never takes away the genuine concerns around a toxic community that takes place because people are accepting of this kind of behavior.

In hisapology video, Censor made an attempt at a sincere apology:

I want to make this video because if I don’t do this right now, the internet in 2023 will be undefeated and with a snap of the finger… If I go to sleep tonight, I am going to have this on my mind all night, I’ll not be able to sleep well, I’m going to feel terrible.

I cringed when I did it because I knew it was wrong and it’s not something that I stand for. And yet I did it anyway. So, I am really disappointed in myself, and I am upset because people are going to see it and they are going to think that they could do this too because I did it. And that’s not okay, it’s not right. It’s just wrong.

How Social Media Is Responding to Censor’s Downfall

This isn’t the first time Censor has dropped the ball on his reputation. Hence, being banned seems like something that was long overdue. Through his behavior in recent times, he has garnered a lot of negative attention when he posted false hacking accusations against Nadia (a fellowCall of Dutystreamer).

In avideoon YouTube about the aforementioned topic, he expressed his ‘concerns’ for Nadia’s gameplay where he accused her of cheating. However, the video ends with a random and unexpected proposal to Nadia. The comment section didn’t take well to this, with the top comment being:

Congratulations on further cementing yourself as the biggest joke in the Call of Duty scene, truly impeccable.

What now seems like a familiar response, Censortweetedabout the same and told the Twitter channel Call of Shame about his true intentions:

I wanted to make a troll video and validate Nadia as the content genius she has been over these last few months. Sorry if this makes the catch-a-hacker community upset, but I’m really not that sorry.

Pulling this stunt got Censor kicked from Boston Breach’sCall of Dutyroster. He even claimed that he was ‘banned’ from the $100KCall of Dutytournament by Activision.

After his recent behavior, many fans are seemingly changing their opinion about the otherwise loved streamer. This could lead to the streamer’s downfall.

Whether or not Censor remains banned is something only time will tell.
