Google has officially called off the Google I/O 2020 developer conference, which was dubbed as its largest event of the year. Google took this decision considering the spread of thecoronavirus pandemic. The physical event was already canceled by Google on June 23, 2025, and now the online event has also been scrapped.

As reported byThe Verge, the event was all set to be held between July 15, 2025, and June 16, 2025. Google was going to show brand new services, the latestAndroid 11 features, and hardware at I/O 2020. It is still not known how the company will showcase all-new features and hardware and how much time it’s going to take.

Google IO 2020 Cancelled

The online event for Google I/O 2020 has been called off because the production staff was supposed to gather to record the live streams. In the time of social distancing, the company dropped the idea of live streams as the safety of people is more important than the event.

In astatement, Google said that to take care of the safety and health of the local communities, developers, and employees, the company will not organize the I/O in 2020. It was further mentioned that the company would help people in facing the challenge coronavirus has created.

Due to the impact of coronavirus, many big tech events have been canceled previously. One of them was theMobile World Congress,which is said to be the biggest smartphone event in the world. So is the case with events related to the automobile industry, like the Geneva Motor Show was also called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Apart from this, Apple has also converted the 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) into an online event. Other companies including Facebook and Microsoft have removed all the in-person events from their spring developers’ conference.
