Getting Super Saiyan 4 inDragon Ball GTis complicated. First, something must make Goku go Super Saiyan, like seeing his student Uub get hurt. Then, he transforms into Golden Great Ape. Finally, he changes from the wild ape form to Super Saiyan 4.
The controversy around Super Saiyan 4 is that it’s only inDragon Ball GT, not the main series. So, it’s not officially part of the mainDragon Ballstory.

Ultra Instinct is Better than Super Saiyan 4

The challenge with Great Ape forms is losing control, but Super Saiyan 4 solves this problem, allowing Goku to keep control. On the other hand, Ultra Instinct, first seen inDragon Ball Super, is more of a mental state than a physical transformation.
Goku learned it from Whis through training, but it’s hard to master because it requires controlling emotions. Goku can’t use it perfectly at will. For example, in the fight against Jiren, it activated when he was losing rather than when he wanted to.

He even uses his emotions with it, unlike before. This power helped him beat Gas, the strongest fighter in the universe at that time. True Ultra Instinct is stronger than GT’s Super Saiyan 4, making it Goku’s strongest form inDragon Ball.
