In Android 16 beta 4, there is a developer option for “Enable desktop experience features”. Just like Windows, it shows a taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

Users will be able to pin apps in the taskbar and open multiple apps in floating windows. It will also show recent apps and an option to minimize or close them.

Furthermore, there will also be support for external displays via USB-C, and there could be options for wireless connection in the future. This should result in an immersive desktop-like experience.

Google’s Desktop Mode will work similarly to Samsung’s Dex feature and Motorola’s Ready For functionality. Although Google’s offering seems a bit basic in comparison and there are several things it needs to work on.

Given that Android 16 is just around the corner, we won’t have to wait long to see Google’s implementation of Desktop mode. Although only time will tell if the feature will be limited to Pixel phones or come to other devices as well.
