Eiichiro Oda has a habit of foreshadowing things in his magnum opus. WhenOne Piecestarted, there was no concept of Haki, yet later in the story, it was revealed that Shanks had used Haki to ward off the Sea King, who bit off his arm. Haki is one of the strongest abilities inOne Piece, and the ones that have mastered it rule over the Grand Line and Red Line.

Shanks

One of the characters that has insanely powerful Haki is Shanks. Eiichiro Oda had revealed that Dracule Mihawk, one of the former Warlords, used to be Shanks’ rival. So, naturally, theOne Piecefandom wanted to find out who is the stronger of the two. After years, the mangaka has finally revealed who triumphs over the other.

Shanks vs. Mihawk – Who Takes The Win?

Shanks is one of the Emperors of the Sea and has mastered Haki in every form. He is known as the Killer of Observation Haki. For most ofOne Piece, he remained dormant, but as the story is entering its final saga, he is showing its true colors. The end of the Wano arc saw one of the admirals, Ryokugyu launch an attack on Wano. It was Shanks who defeated him with his Conqueror’s Haki from miles away.

Mihawk from One Piece

With a bounty of 4.0489 billion berries, he is the one with the highest bounty after Big Mom and Kaido’s defeat. As far as Eiichiro Oda has showcased his powers, no one comes close to him in terms of Haki. On top of that, he does not have any Devil Fruit powers. On the other hand, Dracule Mihawk is a former Warlord and a member of the Cross Guild with Sir Crocodile and Buggy. He is known as the World’s Strongest Swordsman. His sword, Yoru, is a Black Blade and one of the Supreme Grade swords. Considering Mihawk’s power, he could easily be a Yonko, but he chooses not to be so.

Mihawk has showcased his powers against Roronoa Zoro at Baratie and against Vista during the Paramount War. With a single slash, he can divide the ground in half. He has a bounty of 3.590 billion berries. When the Cross Guild was formed, Eiichiro Oda mentioned that he was the Strongest Swordsman in the World and surpassed Shanks at swordplay. Eiichiro Oda carefully chose his words as he wanted to show that Mihawk is better when it comes to swordplay. But if the two are to clash in an open battle, then Shanks will pick up the victory.

Eiichiro Oda’s Say On The Rivalry

Eiichiro Oda is considered a genius, and it is not just for being a great mangaka. He knows how his story will play out and carefully takes everything into account to weave it into something beautiful. In the same way, he carefully chose his words to describe Mihawk as the strongest swordsman in theOne Pieceworld and even brought Shanks to it.

In terms of an all-out battle, Oda is indicating that Shanks will have the upper hand. While Mihawk has somewhat revealed his true powers, Shanks has yet to showcase his full power in the anime. It shows that no one truly knows his extent, and his bounty is actually lower than it should be. Of course, Mihawk also has mastered the Armament Haki, but Shanks’ is on a different level.
