Celebrated filmmaker, producer, and writer Catherine Cyran passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 59 in Vancouver, B.C. She fought a long battle with cancer, and close friends and relatives confirmed her death via multiple Facebook posts.
Cyran started her career in the 1990s and worked under Roger Corman. She established herself as a writer and earned credits for movies such asSlumber Party Massacre IIIandA Cry in the Wild. Later on, she made her directorial debut in the 1993 movieWhite Wolves: A Cry in the Wild II. The feature film earned her an Emmy nomination.

Filmmaker Catherine Cyran Was A Legendary Artist
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Cyran is the first member of her family to attend college. She finished her course at Harvard in 1985, then spent two years working in London for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Cyran served as an executive assistant to renowned director Roger Corman, who also influenced moviemakers like Francis Ford Coppola, Jonathan Demme, and Peter Bogdonavich. The screenwriter penned and produced movies such asDead Space(starring Bryan Cranston),Fire on the Amazon(Sandra Bullock), andUncaged(Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Cyran worked as a ghostwriter in Corman’sFrankenstein Unbound.
Her career blossomed over the years, with a strong foundation and an exemplary roster of past projects. She started working with Fox Family Television Studios and ABC Family. She continued earning impressive projects and worked as a writer for Universal’sWerewolfandThe Beast Among Us. Her other notable works includeThe Prince & MeandTrue Heart.
Her passing was deeply mourned by family and friends in the industry. In one heartfelt message, Gary B. Bigger Jr. expressed his emotions:
“Today we lost a beautiful soul, Catherine Cyran. This Christmas Eve You slipped through my fingers peacefully. My mentor & director who truly loved me…I never thought angels existed till now.”
Aside from movies, Cyran also published a novel,The Island of the Last Great Auk. Interestingly, Cyran took the SAT test “just for fun.” She aced the exam and got a perfect score of 1600.

Catherine Cyran was a member of the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of Canada, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. She believed in telling good stories and letting them reach wider audiences. Her works are proof of her wisdom, creativity, and passion for the arts.
