Zack Snyder recalled the story of Henry Cavill’s first time donning the Superman suit in preparation forMan of Steel. Cavill had the opportunity to don the red cape and blue spandex on screen in the Snyder-directedMan of Steelin 2013.

Any actor in Hollywood has always had a difficult time playing Superman, especially after the late movie hero Christopher Reeve’s renowned big-screen portrayal of the character in 1978.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Zack Snyder recalled the key moment in 2010 when he realized he had found his star. The irony is that Cavill was putting on one of Reeve’s original Superman costumes for a test footage Snyder was shooting for Warner Bros.
Snyder requested Cavill to don the same spandex outfit that Reeve wore while filming test scenes forMan of Steelin 2010. He told THR,
“When you see the suit on the ground, it’s kind of shriveled up, it’s just spandex, it looks like, ‘Oh God, that’s not going to be cool.’ “Henry put it on in this trailer. And there’s a version of this where he comes out and is like, ‘I’m Superman!’ and you’re like, ‘OK, it’s Halloween.’ But Henry came out and even the crusty grips we hired for the test got quiet. Everybody was heart-attack serious. He had just the right energy. We were like, “Oh, he’s Superman. That’s what Superman looks like.’“
Since then, Cavill’s iteration of Superman has returned in 2016’sBatman v. Superman: Dawn of Justiceand theJustice Leaguefilm in 2017.
