Google AI Is Coming and What It Means for Galaxy AI

Samsung wowed the world with itsGalaxy AI featureslike theCircle to Search, smart summaries, and magic editor. The Galaxy S24 series were the first to incorporate all these features. The Galaxy AI is powered by Google’s Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 technologies. And all of that, and more, is coming to the Pixel 9 series.

Android Authority reportsthat Google is gearing up to launch new ML (machine learning) features under the Google AI umbrella. So what are these features?

Add Me seems to be an upgrade of Best Take with a new twist. Best Take could change expressions, and merge takes. I think it will now be able to add people to a group photo in case they couldn’t make it on the trip or weren’t present.

Similarly, Studio seems to be an upgraded version of the Creative Assistant, which can create stickers on the fly. Studio sounds like a full suit of AI image and video generation where you may be able to create images and videos too.

Screenshots is a new feature that might be a little controversial. Remember Windows Recall? Screenshots is a spin on it with a more privacy-focused approach. When enabled, it will only store screenshots that you take instead of capturing everything like Recall but with extra metadata like app name, links, info, what you were doing, etc. you may then use AI to search and locate them and ask questions about them.

So what does all of this mean for Galaxy AI users and Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners?

A lot of these features you have already seen or used on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series. But there are a few notable additions. Add Me, Screenshots, and Studio are new AI features. Will they also come to the Galaxy AI?

I don’t think they will, because Google will want to keep the novelty factor differentiating the Pixels from the Galaxy phones. But that’s just me. Thelicensing agreementmay allow Samsung Galaxy smartphones to receive these new AI features in exactly the same or a slightly modified form. We will soon find out.

Samsung is working on other AI features too. SamMobile recentlyreportedthat Galaxy devices with an S Pen may get an image-generating feature where it can create images from rough sketches drawn by the users. Useful for artists, designers, and interior decorators. The feature is expected to arrive with One UI 6.1.1 on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 scheduled to launchnext week in Paris.
