Though theaters might be re-opening across the world, the pandemic has irreversibly shifted the tide towards streaming platforms. With the inevitable rise of online streaming, the concept of blockbusters might be a thing of the past. As a result, major studio houses are now willing to spend millions of dollars on developing television shows over movies. With Disney leading the way withThe Mandalorian,WandaVision, and an array of shows lined-up in the coming months, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max are not far behind either. While a few popular franchises are being adapted for shows instead of movies,Harry Potteris the latest entrant to this list. In January,The Hollywood Reporterhad reported that Warner Bros. and HBO Max are in talks to develop aHarry Potterseries. While it is unclear if the project will actually enter production, the news has surely made the fans of the wizarding world euphoric. Though it is yet to be revealed if the show will be a reboot of the movies or explore the adventures of the trio, here are 10 characters we expect to see in the upcoming series, apart from Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Harry Potter Series at HBO

10Minerva McGonagall

Though a strict disciplinarian, Minerva McGonagall is a fan-favorite for all the right reasons. Portrayed by Maggie Smith in the movies, Professor McGonagall was the guardian who kept Harry and his friends in check despite their propensity to attract trouble. While it is highly unlikely that Maggie Smith will reprise the role in the series, fans would surely love to see the stern Headmistress of Hogwarts in action as she is once again troubled by the new generation of Weasleys and Potters.

9Molly Weasley

Part-time badass, full-time affectionate, Molly Weasley is the much-needed stability and maternal support the series needs. After the Battle of Hogwarts, the series can spend a few scenes with Molly Weasley as she copes with Fred’s death and raises a new generation of Weasleys as the caring and loving grandmother.

8George Weasley

If Fred Weasley’s death affected someone the most, then it was most definitely George. Having lost his twin brother in the Battle of Hogwarts, it would be interesting to see how George has developed as a person and if he still retains his wicked sense of humor. Also not to forget, a trip to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes is a must!

7Albus Severus Potter

A lot has been said aboutHarry Potter and the Cursed Child. While the play was definitely a trip down memory lane, the story was a mash-up of various Harry Potter fan-fictions found on Tumblr. However, Albus Severus Potter played a vital role in the story which made him quite popular among fans. While we hope that HBO won’t be adaptingThe Cursed Childfor the show, fans would definitely wish to see more of Albus Severus as he tries to create his own identity by stepping out of his father’s shadow. Also, a Potter in the house of Slytherin would surely be an interesting theme to explore if the showrunners take the decision.

6Edward ‘Teddy’ Lupin

Teddy Lupin was left in the care of his grandmother Andromeda after the tragic death of his parents, Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin, in the Battle of Hogwarts. The godson of Harry, Teddy is a Metamorphmagus who was sorted into Hufflepuff, and later became the Head Boy in his final year. As the son of two brave magicians who laid down their lives for the greater good, Teddy Lupin has a serious potential to be a major character in the series. Not to mention, his relationship with Victorie Weasley can also provide cheesy and affectionate teenage romance to the show.

5Scorpius Malfoy

While the rivalry between Harry and Draco might have finally ended, now it’s up to the new generation to uphold that tradition. Though it is highly unlikely that the hierarchy based on the purity of magical blood still exists after the fall of Lord Voldemort, it would be interesting to see Scorpius Malfoy’s journey in the series. With the shame of being attached to a family who once served Voldemort, albeit forcibly, it would be up to Scorpius to prove that he is much different from them, or probably not.

4Draco Malfoy

Draco’s fall to evil and his eventual redemption has often made him an interesting character who has evoked many discussions in the chatrooms of various social media platforms. While Draco did realize the error in his ways, he was still an insufferable prick for the most part of the series. However, after the defeat of Lord Voldemort, it would surely be exciting to see Draco trying to move away from his dark past, and the ways in which he would be raising Scorpius for a brand new egalitarian wizarding world.

3Rubeus Hagrid

If there’s a single character who is loved by all, it has to be the gamekeeper of Hogwarts. The gentle half-giant played a vital role during Harry’s formative years at Hogwarts, showering him with unconditional love, care, and support. The character’s massive popularity even led the fans to question J.K. Rowling for naming Harry’s second son Albus Severus, instead of maybe, Albus Rubeus. Nonetheless, the series has to bring back Hagrid, and maybe explore his adventures with other exotic creatures, including the new generation of Potters and Weasleys.

Harry Potter Series Minerva McGonagall

2Neville Longbottom

The surprising hero who saved the day, Neville Longbottom is proof that courage can be found in the most unlikely of places. After the Battle of Hogwarts, Neville pursued his passion for Herbology and became a professor at Hogwarts. Additionally, he also became the head of Gryffindor, replacing Minerva McGonagall. With so many new troublemakers in Hogwarts, it’s now up to Neville to teach them the values of Gryffindor, and push them to win the House Cup.

1James Sirius Potter

The eldest child of Harry and Ginny, James Sirius Potter is the principal troublemaker who has lived up to his name. Having inherited the easy-going and confident attitude of his grandfather James Potter and his father’s godfather Sirius Black, the lad is also known to have George and Fred’s sense of humor. Additionally, his bad timing and knack for interfering with others’ love lives are pretty much inherited from his uncle, Ron Weasley. Having stolen the Marauder’s Map from his father, the tale of James Sirius Potter is got to be a trip down memory lane as he lives up to the legacies of the Potters, Blacks, and Weasleys.
