When Eddie Redmayne first played Newt Scamander inFantastic Beasts and Where To Find Themback in 2016, his performance was widely acclaimed as the movie brought in 4.5 times its budget at the box office, with fans wanting more of his adventures to find and save numerous other magical creatures. However, the sequels that came from the franchise offered much less of that and focused more on other stuff, which led to lesser success for both of them as compared to the first part.

These box-office numbers trending downward further led to the decline of the franchise, with the story suggested to be left as it is. However, fans have once again brought about the hope of Newt Scamander returning as they dig up a 20-year-old Easter egg related to theHarry Potterfilm series.

Considering howFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of GrindelwaldandFantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledoredeviated from Newt Scamander’s adventurous story of finding and saving magical creatures, fans had lost all hope ofEddie Redmaynereprising his beloved character.

Furthermore, even the cast members revealed how they have no knowledge of another installment from theFantastic Beastsfranchise happening anytime soon, further worrying fans that they couldn’t see their favorite character on the big screens anymore.
However, a recent 20-year-old Easter egg related to theHarry Potterfilm series dug by fans has once again brought about the hope that Scamander’s loose-ended concluded story could actually be properly continued. This ‘Easter egg’ was his somewhat cameo in the thirdHarry Pottermovie.

InHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a scene where Fred and George Weasley hand down the Marauder’s Map to Harry Potter during his third year. In this scene, Newt Scamander’s name is clearly visible and moving about on the map.
While this may have gone unnoticed by most, this indirect cameo clearly states that Scamander was at Hogwarts during Potter’s third year for some reason (although not mentioned in the books), thus bridging the gap between theFantastic Beastsand theHarry Potterfranchises.

Not only this but since Newt Scamander’s story is a retrospectively written prequel to Harry Potter’s story, this Easter egg further hints at Eddie Redmayne’s character’s adventures in his later years, presumably quite well in his 90s.

Newt Scamander Can Return WithHarry PotterReboot
With theFantastic Beastsfranchise on a mute hold at the moment and this new 20-year-old Easter egg recently discovered, fans are genuinely hoping that theHarry Potterreboot in the works could bring Newt Scamander back to the big screens.
This could happen if Scamander gets on the ground to assist with the care of the magical creatures since he has already authored one of the established elements in Hogwarts’ syllabus: the fictionalFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Thembook.
But if the character were to appear in the reboot, Eddie Redmayne would probably not be the one to reprise the role, given the character’s age at the time. Nonetheless, the show could still quite easily talk about what Scamander was doing in Hogwarts during Potter’s third year.
If this happens, it could not only add a fresh approach to the on-screen Wizarding World with Newt Scamander’s whimsy and likable personality but could actually end up setting all the loose ends straight that were left undone by theFantastic Beastsfranchise in the sequels.
