Following the release of her feature film,Flamin’ Hot, Eva Longoria recalled how she was treated in the entertainment sector. Criticizing Hollywood for the negative portrayal of Latinos, the 48-year-old began stating her reasons toThe Hollywood Reporterduring an interview. “I was like, ‘I can’t breathe,’. I had PTSD from 24 episodes a year” Longoria spoke about herDesperate Housewivesshooting schedule.

Feeling resentment for her character, and the way Hollywood often portrayed her as a brainless s*x symbol, Eva Longoria discussed the film industry’s way of under-representation of people of color. Thus, willing to rectify the issues herself, the 48-year-old actress wished to venture into directing. Harboring ambitions to produce and direct, Longoria discussed her journey from acting to behind the camera. Eva Longoria recalled,

“The industry’s definitely wary of an actor coming in [to direct]. For me, it was about overcoming that. It wasn’t s*xism or racism. It was like, ‘Here comes a dumb actor.’”

Thus, the actress began to slowly venture into directing to make her own recognition and prove her capabilities. After previously serving as a producer, Eva Longoria moved on to take the directing credits. “It was much easier to start in my own backyard” the actress stated. Thereafter, Longoria got into the habit of directing projects under her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner.
