TheOne Piece‘s broad and ever-expanding story which got adapted into the live-action successfully broke the curse of live-action anime adaptations. Netflix has admitted that the first season of the live-action adaptation was a success, and it was unquestionably one of the most-watched shows and they are ready for Season 2. A lot of effort and hard work has gone into creating the series and exploring the exploits of Luffy, who dreams of becoming King of the Pirates by discovering the treasure of Gol D. Roger.

Matt Owens, the creator of the live adaption, had to go through a lot to create the series. One of them was undoubtedly one of the most exciting moments of his life as he got to meet Eiichiro Oda, the mastermind behind the story itself. However, there was one aspect of meeting Oda that he never expected and that was the bond they formed while discussing the collaboration.

Matt Owens Never Expected the Collaboration with Eiichiro Oda
In aReddit AMAwith fans, Owens talked about working on the show ahead of the start of Netflix’s Season 2 production. The most surprising aspect of it all was how collaborative and enjoyable it was to work with the series’ original creator, Eiichiro Oda, as they helped figure out how to create the perfect adaptation of Oda’s magnum opus. He said:
“The most surprising aspect of working with Oda is how well we gelled and collaborated. Not that I expected different, but his engagement was not just informative and important, but fun. We have spent HOURS talking about the intricacies of One Piece. Characters, history, all sorts of things.”

Owens stated that meeting with Oda was not only informative and helpful but he also had a lot of fun. They spent hours discussingOne Pieceand how they would make the most successful Live-Action adaptation in history.

Matt Owens Developed a Creative Partnership with Eiichiro Oda
Owens stated that they not only discussedOne Piecebut also picked each other’s brains about other anime and shows which helped them develop a creative partnership that led to the success of the series. He said:
“We also talked a lot about movies and books and anime. We learned how each other thinks and it birthed a very creative partnership. I always look forward to our talks because we learn so much from one another and it made for a better show. I really cannot express enough my love for him.”

Owens looks forward to their talks as he gets to learn so much from Eiichiro Oda and he loves to express his thoughts to him. Their partnership and creative mindset have helped Netflix build a great series that is loved by fans and now they can’t wait for Season 2.
