Although Ortega is well-known for her roles in popular television series likeYouandJane the Virgin,she typically prefers to keep her personal life a secret. But when a rumor surfaced linking her to the adoredSleepy Hollowstar, she felt compelled to speak out.
In a post on her Instagram Stories that has since expired and is no longer available, Ortega vehemently denied Depp romance rumors, claiming that the two have never interacted or worked together:
“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp himself has addressed the rumors, with his spokesperson stating:
“Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumours that are intended to harm his reputation and career.”

What Sparked the Spread of This Rumor?
It was a rumor that seemed crazy but was just likely enough to be true that it almost immediately went viral. According to the social media gossip website Deux Moi, which is famous for its disclaimer that“this account does not claim information published is based in fact”,Jenna Ortega andJohnny Deppwere reportedly seen out on a date.
However, Ortega’s response to the allegation was swift and furious, disproving all those “ridiculous”romantic rumors.
The anonymous person behind the Deux Moi Instagram account, which has over two million followers (as of this writing), spoke with Vanity Fair in 2021 and claimed that the publication was:
“Just about sharing stories. The fact that there has been information that has been newsworthy, or current, is just by chance.”
As part of her second project with Tim Burton, the 20-year-old Ortega will next be seen in theBeetlejuicesequel, the 1988 hit movie. She earlier played Wednesday Addams in the Netflix acclaimed seriesWednesday, in which Burton helmed four of the eight episodes.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp, who turned 60 last June, is also causing a stir on Netflix. But in his case, it isDepp v. Heard,a documentary about the contentious online debate surrounding his high-profile lawsuit against Amber Heard, his ex-wife.
