The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is known for making perfect casting decisions, be it Robert Downey Jr. For Iron Man or Cate Blanchett for Hela. The MCU features a wealth of talent, but some of its casting decisions have been controversial at first. Something similar could’ve happened with Tom Hiddleston, who was first auditioned to play another Marvel superhero.

Robert Downey Jr. was destined to play Tony Stark. Similarly, Chris Evans was the perfect fit to play Captain America, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Although it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing these characters, many actors in the franchise had to compete against other actors to land these roles.

Tom Hiddleston Auditioned For The Role Of Thor

Before assuming the role of Loki,Tom Hiddlestoninitially auditioned for the role of Thor. After months of intense training to prepare for the role, the actor even went ahead and gave a screen test for the God of Thunder. He even had Thor’s signature long golden hair for the audition.

Hiddleston toldJimmy Fallon:

“I auditioned for the first Thor film 10 years ago in 2009. And I just thought I was auditioning for a movie. You know, an interesting part in an interesting movie. Back then, the Marvel Universe was—they’d just made Iron Man. And I thought, ‘I’ll have a go.’ I didn’t expect to be cast at all.”

But as fate would have it, Tom Hiddleston eventually landed the role of Thor’s brother, the God of Mischief Loki. Fans can’t thank the MCU enough for casting Hiddleston as Loki. His character development over the years is among the best in the franchise, coming to an epic conclusion withLokiSeason 2. The actor played the part for 14 years, first appearing in the initialThorfilm.

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Had a Huge Impact On The MCU

While speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hiddleston shared thatLokiSeason 2 serves as the perfect end to Loki’s character. Moreover, it marks the conclusion of six films, 12 episodes, and a span of 14 years in his MCU journey. Hiddleston joined the cast at the age of 29 and appeared in Loki’s costume for the last time at 42. The actor asserted that his character’s end holds significance across all the versions of Loki he has played over the years.

“If you haven’t seen it, I will not spoil it for you but I will say this, it all comes full circle. It’s the conclusion of season two. It’s also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I’m 42 now. it’s been a journey. I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I’ve played.”

The actor also spoke about the last episode, titled “Glorious Purpose,” recalling a scene in The Avengers, where Loki visits Earth and tells Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, “I’m Loki of Asgard. I’m burdened with glorious purpose.” It seems that life came full circle for the character.
