Besides being one of the most majestic personalities in Hollywood having a body better than that of a Greek God, Arnold Schwarzenegger is also one of those action star breeds who perform their own stunts, and that too, without much hesitation. Although doing this has put him under several injuries as well, he wears his scars with pride and gets up and gets back to the grind, just like his character in his most renowned movie of all time,Terminator.

However, this one time, his dangerous stunt scene in his $96 million movie went a bit too wrong, nearly costing him his life as he desperately tried to revive his Hollywood career back in the 2000s.

While he managed to get out of most of his other stunt scenes with mere gashes and minor injuries, this one stunt scene while shootingThe 6th Dayback in 2000 almost costArnold Schwarzeneggerhis precious life. During a Q&A interview on Reddit in 2014, he shared the story of how he almost lost his life while shooting a dangerous stunt scene in a desperate attempt at saving his downward spiraling career,

“On The 6th Day, there was a scene where I hide underwater behind embryos. I did a rehearsal with goggles and everything went fine. But when we actually shot, I couldn’t see because the water was milky. So I ran out of air and went to the top and realized I didn’t know where to get out. I was trapped. Then a hand grabbed me and pulled me out. It was my stunt double, Billy Lucas. He’d been watching from below with a tank and goggles and realized I was in big, big trouble.”

Although he barely managed to get out of the harrowing situation, Schwarzenegger further went on to reveal how this wasn’t the only time he was in a life-or-death situation.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Had Played With Danger Before As Well

Recalling his other experience, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared how he played with danger before as well, on the sets of his 1994 superhit,True Lies.

“On ‘True Lies,’ you probably remember the horse scene. There was a shot where the horse had to stop at the edge of a building. They built a little ramp to give the horse longer to stop. But when they were measuring the new distance from the ramp to the camera, they dropped the arm of the camera on the horse’s nose, and it went crazy, spinning and rearing. There was no rail, and the ramp was only 4 feet wide. I realized it was a bad situation and I slid off the horse right away and a stunt man grabbed me. That one was really scary. If the horse stepped a foot the wrong way, we would have fallen 90 feet to a cement floor.”

But thankfully, this time as well, there was his stunt double right there to rescue him from his highly risky, near-fatal accident.

“These stories are why I will always love stunt people,” he concluded in his post.

Though his action movies are truly one of a kind that no other set of action films can ever replace, Arnold Schwarzenegger proved with his stories how much sweat and blood he gave for filming them, making them and him extra special and worth all the appreciation they get.
