When Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker createdInvincible, they probably had no idea it would eventually make it so big and have its TV debut as an animated TV series on Amazon Prime. But here we are, with critics and fans praising it for its fresh take on the superhero mythos and how well it used the fictional world of superheroes to address mature and complex themes as well as offer thought-provoking insight into social commentary.
Now as it gears up for its second season after a long wait of over two years, there seems to be a superhero fatigue lingering on among the audience thanks to endless Marvel and DC projects. Despite this, Kirkman believes the show will thrive for one reason.

Robert Kirkman‘sInvinciblestands out from the crowded superhero genre. Its unique blend of characters, engaging storytelling, and inclusion of mature themes offer fans something that is distinct from the larger superhero universes of Marvel and DC. Furthermore, the show is more character-driven and self-contained allowing viewers to follow easily.
However, as it gears for the release of its season two, there lies the challenge of combatting the superhero fatigue that fans have been feeling lately due to the overwhelming presence of Marvel and DC. However, Kirkman is not worried about it, as he explained in an interview withInverse,
“If we are experiencing a period of superhero fatigue, I think that’s a great time. Invincible was a comic book for people who loved superheroes but were maybe tired reading the same superheroes for so long. In that respect, it’s a perfect time for Invincible to drop a second season.”
He states that theInvinciblestoryline and characters, and the way the show tackles its characters and presents its emotions are enough for the show to break through, for its various distinct elements make a great storyline.

Robert Kirkman Has No Plans To Stop Anytime Soon
For many creators battling greater entities in their genres, they would prefer to end their projects before ‘the fuel runs out’. However, Kirkman is not among them, and taking risks is something that he enjoys. Talking about how the show will end, he stated while talking to Inverse that he has somewhat of a loose idea as to how to end the show.
“I also think there’s a chance the way the comic ends sets up a lot of other storylines. It’s possible the animated series lasts beyond that point, and there’s new stories. I’m happy the way Invincible [the comic] ended. I’m excited at the possibility of adapting that ending into the show. But it’s a long way away.”
He bravely added,
“I think that’s where you want to be. You don’t want to be like, ‘We did the same thing and everything’s fine.’ It might be easier on the nerves but I feel like you’ve got to keep pushing boundaries and see what the limits are. I won’t stop until people hate the show.”
And just like Kirkman, fans are excited for whatInvinciblehas in store for them.
