Robert Downey Jr was interested in making a cameo in this MCU show
Despite not returning for any of the Marvel Phase Four projects, there was one Marvel TV show, whereRobert Downey Jr.once showcased his interest in making an appearance. Following MCU’s first attempt at expanding its brand in the television landscape withAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it seems RDJ was highly impressed by the show, which was created by Joss Whedon. Considering actors likeSamuel L. Jackson, who made a special appearance in the show as Nick Fury, theIron Manstar hoped for a similar cameo in the show.
However, following the extra work that would be needed in order to make the idea come to fruition, the actor ultimately brushed off his plans of making a cameo in the critically acclaimed show. During hisAsk Me Anythingsession on Reddit, the actor explained,

“Nothing is impossible. But there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that. I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well,”
But considering it was around a time when the MCU was just starting to bloom, after 12 years of playing the same character, RDJ doesn’t seem to be open to the idea of reprising the role anymore.

Although it would be great to witness him back in the MCU, considering that his story came full circle that resulted in his iconic send-off, it’s reasonable to see why RDJ returning won’t be the best idea.
