David Fincher Explained the Nature ofThe Killer

The name of Fincher is enough to create a buzz and his most recent Netflix action thriller has grabbed several headlines. But to understand the essence of the movie, the director’s perception might help dissect the nature of the narrative. Speaking withDeadline, Fincher explains the thematic core ofThe Killer.

“The task at hand is relatable, it’s dramatic, it’s high stakes and in a lot of ways it’s extremely procedural, there are a lot of boxes that you need to tick before you exhale and pull. I didn’t really think of the movie as an assassin movie, I think of it more as a revenge movie,”Fincher said.

Fincher is a master of such grim and dark narratives. InThe Killer,he was keen on letting the primary character develop a code and then“I like the idea of that code being dismantled by his needs, by necessity.”The character arc ofMichael Fassbenderas The Killer, a professional assassin is not a straightforward narrative of a ruthless serial killer but rather the inner turmoil that created the storm on screen, at least, the director insists upon the idea.
