With David Corenswet in the lead role, Gunn had said several times that the movie would not act as an origin story for the Man of Steel. In a recent chat with a fan, James Gunn stated that he never said he was making a young Superman movie!

James Gunn Is Not Making A Young Superman Movie

Ever since Henry Cavill was fired from the franchise, people have talked about who the next Superman was going to be. After much speculation and rumors, it was finally revealed that the role of Superman was going to be taken up by David Corenswet.

Zack Snyder with Henry Cavill

Before Corenswet was finalized, James Gunn had admitted several times thatSuperman: Legacywould be a reboot of theMan of Steelfranchise. Given the reason that they wanted a younger actor for Clark Kent,James Gunnjustified removing Henry Cavill from the franchise because of his age. Well, the tables have now turned as Gunn replied to a fan that he was never making a“young Superman”movie.

The director is indeed right in this since the movie may show a young Superman in some sequences, but Gunn never did say that it would act as a prequel to Zack Snyder’sMan of Steel. The director had admitted back in December that the earlier part of the film will depict a young Superman and that is why, Henry Cavill had to be removed.

“In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”

Only he and Peter Safran know what they both have up their sleeve for the future of the DCU. In other news, James Gunn denied Ben Affleck’s voice cameo inBlue Beetleand proclaimed that the rumor was utterly false.

In another interview, the recently released filmBlue Beetlemade rounds around the internet for being somewhat underrated, Its director Angel Manuel Soto also talked about Zack Snyder’s Superman and how they also added several references to it under James Gunn’s DCU.

“Waking up in Mexico to the news that [Zack] Snyder wants to see it too, a director that I respect so much, that his films are an immense influence… Even in ‘Blue Beetle,’ there are some references to ‘Man of Steel’ that we made out of honor and respect for the work and art of Zack Snyder.”

The director further continued,

“Also, seeing David Ayer sharing it… It’s like, ‘WOW, brother!’ How nice it feels to have that support from people that one respects and that the fans also respect.”

Suffice it to say, the loyalties of people in the DCU are very fragile as they have a lot of respect for ex-members of the DCU and not so much for James Gunn. With the SAG-AFTRA and the WGA Strike,Superman: Legacyis currently set for a release date of 11th July 2025 in the U.S.
