Even though James Gunn has yet to direct any movie as the co-CEO of DC Studios, such has been the performances of all DCEU titles under his leadership in the last 12 months that anything Gunn even dares to touch with a barge pole is viewed with plenty of skepticism.
We already know his decision to drop Henry Cavill as Superman hasn’t been received well by fans and now some are showing concerns regarding his plans for chapter one of DCU,Gods and Monsters, which will introduce fans to not just Superman but also the Lantern Corps.

Why Fans Are Worried About James Gunn’s Lanterns Plans
As we get closer to the culmination of hugely disappointing the DC Extended Universe withAquaman 2,fans are starting to shift their focus onJames Gunn‘s plans for the revitalization of the DC Universe.
It’s already been confirmed that the story of Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) will be the true beginning of the DCU, but Gunn, along with Peter Safran, has already insisted they also have big plans for the Green Lantern HBO Max series,Lanterns.
It is yet to be formally confirmed when Hal Jordan and John Stewart will arrive on our screens, but it’s been revealed that fans will see Nathan Fillion – who will play the role of Green Lantern, Guy Gardner in the television series – inSuperman: Legacy.This should give fans a deeper look at how the Green Lanterns will be weaved into the new DC Universe.
Gunn has also decided to populate his legacy IP with Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific).

Some fans have taken an issue with this approach of going all-in with so many characters, especially when compared to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s approach of steadily introducing superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in 2008.
It must be noted that Gunn has plenty of experience in directing star-laden movies. In particular, theGuardians of the Galaxy trilogyis a testament to his ability to seamlessly manage multiple characters in a plot.

Who James Gunn Has Cast as Superman: Legacy’s ‘Villain’
Earlier this week, Gunn also welcomed María Gabriela de Faría to the ever-growing cast ofSuperman: Legacy.
Another addition, as expected, once again raised the eyebrows of fans. However, earlier this year, the 57-year-old addressed the concern by stating (viaComicBook):
“I don’t understand this fear. There are less characters than in 40-Year-Old Virgin. Did you think Steve Carell got enough time?”
As far as Gabriela’s role in the movie is concerned, it’s widely reported that the Venezuelan actress will play villain Angela Spica aka The Engineer. However, Gunn, through anInstagrampost remarked “villain” is a disparaging term to describe Gabriela’s character.
