Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman has starred in many intense and action-heavy roles in his career. TheEasy Moneyactor mentioned that he tried to ‘go method’ with the role by trying to not talk during the entirety of the shoot, but failed immediately. This led to netizens trolling for his failed attempt at method acting.

Joel Kinnaman Tried To ‘Go Method’ InSilent Night
Actor Joel Kinnaman has starred in many action films over the years. He began his career as a stage actor in Sweden. He had his breakthrough in the filmEasy Money. Kinnaman starred in American TV shows and films after his breakout role, featuring in shows such asThe KillingandAltered Carbon.
He starred in films such asThe Darkest Hourand was reportedly a frontrunner forThorandMad Max: Fury Road. He starred as Rick Flag in the DC filmsSuicide SquadandThe Suicide Squad. In 2021, Kinnaman was cast in the lead role in director John Woo’sSilent Night. The film, which is yet to be released, is said to have little to no dialogue and is action-heavy.

The Swedish actor revealed onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonthat he wanted to try to ‘go method’ in the film and stay silent for the entirety of the shoot. He said,

“I talked to [my fiance] Kelly [Gale] and said, ‘Listen, this is gonna be a tough one for our relationship. I’m not gonna talk for the whole shoot and not talk with you either. So we’re not gonna have any communication.’”
His fiance was reportedly not happy about the decision and tried to talk him out of it, but eventually relented.

Joel Kinnaman’s Failed Attempt At Method Acting Gets Him Trolled
Many actors have ‘gone method’ in intense ways to give a more authentic performance on screen. Actors like Christian Bale and Daniel Day-Lewis are known for their complete commitment to the character even when the camera is off. Bale has transformed his body multiple times to suit the physicality of a character. Joel Kinnaman’sSuicide Squadco-star Jared Leto was also notorious for staying in character throughout filming.
Hence, Kinnaman reportedly wanted to try it out withSilent Nightand decided to not talk for two months during the shoot. However, he revealed that once he reached the location, he felt lonely and saw that his crew members were having fun. This prompted him to relent and he started speaking on set. He quipped,
“I had a really, really intense silent car ride to set. The car ride was basically the whole thing, you know? So that kind of charged me up with enough silence that I needed for the rest of the shoot.”
After Kinnaman revealed his failed attempt at method acting, netizens began to troll him for trying to copy Christian Bale.

While the actor may not have gone silent for the film, he certainly seems to have delivered a powerhouse performance in the action film which sees John Woo return to Hollywood after twenty years.
