One PieceLive-Action has been a massive success since its release and fans have embraced probably the first live-action anime ever. Every member involved in the series was part of making the story a winner, but the most applause goes to Iñaki Godoy, the actor who played the character of Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of the series. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series himself verified the actor to play the role of his story. He justified the role in his own way and gave the fans exactly what they were expecting.

Godoy explained his method of adapting the role in his own way and making it his own. He talked about how he managed to make a blunder in the audition but still got the role.

Iñaki Godoy made a blunder during his Audition
During an interview withTeen Vogue, Godoy explained how he learned about the character of Luffy and how he did in the auditions. He said:
“I remember that for my audition scene, I was talking with Koby. I didn’t know he was Koby at the time but my audition scene was the scene where at the Dinghy after fighting Alvida, I remember when I did my first read of the audition, I was a little bit more serious. There is a boat with flames behind me, that sounds like some serious stuff. And I sent that audition and then I got some feedback, and it was like ‘I know there is a boat on fire, but your character, he is chilling man. He’s like fine.’ So I sent the audition again, this time with no drama at all. And hey, that’s how I got my call back.”

Godoy thought that the situation may have made Luffy a little more serious, but with a little feedback and giving the audition again, he was able to bag the role of the protagonist of the successful live-action series.

Iñaki Godoy Learned About Luffy Through a YouTube video
While explaining his audition in the interview, Inaki talked about how he learned about Luffy and analyzed him through a YouTube video which he literally played for an hour. He said:
“I remember that for my audition I played this YouTube video that was like ‘Oh! Who is Monkey D. Luffy? Let’s analyze that character. And I just listened to that video for like an hour and I realized that the main thing about Luffy was his smile. So I thought to myself if I can have that smile in my audition, I think I have a good shot at making this character. And hey, I think it worked!”

Godoy kept aOne PieceJournal while filming, in which he noted noteworthy moments from each episode. This aided the actor in keeping track of Luffy’s own aims and motives throughout the series. He also practiced character exercises to help him think more like Luffy.
