When Benedict Cumberbatch rescued a Deliveroo cyclist from assaulters

Deliveroo, a popular food delivery service, found itself in the spotlight when one of its drivers became the target of a violent assault. The app, which operates in the United Kingdom, has amassed a vast network of over 100,000 drivers with more than 2,000 employees who help facilitate its operations.

While going around with his routine business in London,Benedict Cumberbatchwas traveling in an Uber when he witnessed a disturbing scene unfold before him. Reportedly, four assaulters were ruthlessly attacking a defenseless Deliveroo cyclist by repeatedly striking his head with a bottle.

And unable to see the cyclist getting assaulted, Cumberbatch swiftly exited his vehicle and sprang into action to confront the attackers. Pulling off the cyclist away from the attackers, theHawkingactor told them to“leave him alone.”Although the assailants attempted to engage in a confrontation with the actor, they soon opted to escape from the scene.

A witness testified to Benedict Cumberbatch’s bravery

The Sun reported on this extraordinary incident, highlighting Cumberbatch’s selfless act that protected the vulnerable Deliveroo driver from harm. And providing a detailed account of the incident, Cumberbatch’s 53-year-old Uber driver told the media,

“I was taking Benedict and his wife to a club — but I didn’t know it was him at first…I went to turn down into Marylebone High Street and we saw four guys were pushing around a Deliveroo cyclist…My passenger jumped out, ran over, and pulled the men away. They turned towards him and things looked like getting worse, so I joined in.”

Elaborating on theDoctor Strangeactor’s courageous stance, the driver revealed that Cumberbatch made sure that the cyclist was okay. He continued,

“Benedict was courageous, brave, and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured…He asked the rider how he was and when he said, ‘I’m OK.’ Benedict just hugged him.”
