Talking about horror franchises and upcoming projects, the director revealed that there is one iconic franchise that he’d like to revive. Talking about the classic 1984 franchise, Mike Flanagan revealed that he wants to rebootA Nightmare on Elm Streetbut no one knows who has the rights for the film!

Mike Flanagan, having proved himself countless times, is heavily interested in rebooting the franchise from scratch. In an episode of theScript Apartpodcast, the director mentioned the one franchise that he’d like to revive but there’s just one complication. No one knows who has the rights to the 1984 film.
“One of the [franchises] on my list forever has been ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’. Boy, that would be fun. I have a whole take for it that I worked out a couple of years ago and my understanding is the rights situation for that title is so fraught, no one knows who controls it really, and no one knows who to pitch.”

With the recent release of Flanagan’sThe Fall of the House of Usher,it seems that the director may also get to work on Stephen King’s magnum opus,The Dark Tower.

Back in 2017, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey starred in the filmThe Dark Tower.Based on Stephen King’s one of the most ambitious novels yet, the film failed spectacularly. Mike Flanagan later revealed in an interview withDeadlinethat he would also like to take a hand at the novels.

“I wrote a pilot, we view it as a as a series that’s going at least five seasons. And having lived with this project as long as I have, I have an enormous amount of it worked out in my brain. But I have a pilot script I’m thrilled with and a very detailed outline for the first season and a broader outline for the subsequent seasons.”
Flanagan’s ideas reached Stephen King as he also gave approval via X (formerly Twitter). It seems that Mike Flanagan will pretty soon find himself busy bringingThe Dark Towernovels to a live-action series. Flanagan’s latest drama miniseriesThe Fall of the House of Usheris currently available to stream on Netflix.
