Some moviegoers, however, feel the films whitewash non-white characters from the Batman universe. Bane, Talia al Ghul, and Ra’s al Ghul are the three villains in question.

However, in the comics, Ra’s al Ghul is a Middle Easterner with Arabic ancestry. Many fans felt whitewashing was at play when a white actor was cast to play an Arab character.

Most people don’t realise that in the comics Bane’s father was King Snake, a blonde, British, white dude & his mother a Latina. So Bane being a white Brit like in the movie isn’t really much of a retcon, but I do agree that it would have been nice to see see a South American Bane

Yeah, like none of them should have been whitewashed, but I’m surprised they got to Dark Knight Rises and still went “Let’s make Talia white”

Whitewashing in Hollywood has been debated and discussed for quite some time. While diversity has now become a regular, the act of having white actors portray non-white characters or having non-white characters because of their white-looking features, there is no guarantee that Whitewashing will be put to rest anytime soon.
