Its popularity has only increased over the years, with millions and millions of people getting attracted to it. For a long time, it has been sitting on the top spot of the most-read manga of all time.
But recently,One Piecewas overthrown from its throne, and people have chosen another Shonen series to be the number one manga. The new number one manga is none other than Gege Akutami’s magnum opus,Jujutsu Kaisen. Jujutsu Kaisenhas recently overthrownOne Pieceto be Shueisha’s Manga Plus’ most-read manga.
One PieceGets Overthrown ByJujutsu Kaisen
For the past few years, it has become a trend that whatever manga becomes popular, the most they will reach is second place. It is because the first place will always be taken by Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus, One Piece. But this habit was recently broken byJujutsu Kaisenafter the latest reports published by Shueisha’s Manga Plus app.Jujutsu Kaisenhas taken the number one spot.
There are several reasons behind Jujutsu Kaisen doing the unachievable. Both the anime and the manga are going through a great phase. The anime started with the Shibuya Incident arc and has already featured Nobara andNanami’s death, along with Satoru Gojo getting sealed. On the other hand, the manga picked up the pace after Satoru Gojo was unsealed and immediately challenged Ryomen Sukuna.
Gege Akutami also mentioned at the Jump Festa 2024that they plan on ending the manga by 2024. So, more people are tuning in for the final saga. The hype of the Strongest Sorcerer and the King of the Curses has helped the manga reach new heights. In a way, every aspect ofJujutsu Kaisenis pushing it towards the number one spot.
Reason BehindOne PieceLosing The Top Spot
One Piecehas sold over 500 million copies of its manga and consistently maintained its first place, with millions of readers reading it every month. But suddenly, the readers are lowered to 700,000s. People think that it happened due to theEgghead arcbeing a transition phase. After two great action-packed arcs – the Whole Cake Island arc and the Wano arc, the Egghead arc feels a bit slow.
The current arc is by no means boring. It has answered a few of the greatest mysteries in One Piece, but fans want to feel the adrenaline rush that they got from Kaido vs Monkey D. Luffy. For the moment, they are getting that from Jujutsu Kaisen. Both manga are in their final saga, with One Piece will most likely outlast Jujutsu Kaisen.
As of now, Jujutsu Kaisen is leading the pack. It will be interesting to see the next report by Shueisha’s Manga Plus, considering Jay Garcia Saturn vs. the Strawhats is yet to happen.
