In an interview with Esquire, the actor opened up about how he was deprived of mainstream roles, even after doingBaywatchalong with Pamela Anderson. Momoa said,
“I fell in love with the art of acting. But no one took me seriously. Baywatch isn’t known for its […] quality of acting. I couldn’t get an agent to save my life.”

As he told Esquire, he later relocated to Los Angeles, worked as a bouncer, and lived in a trailer, until landing a role in a Lifetime movie.
Momoa finally got an opportunity to playAquamanin the 2016 superhero movieBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Fans and critics reacted positively to his portrayal of the character, which led to his own standalone film,Aquaman, released in 2018. The film was a major hit that brought in over $1 billion worldwide and made Momoa an acclaimed action star.
