DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn had been quite confident aboutThe Flashbeing one of the greatest movies of all time. Not just the studio but the fans also had huge expectations from the movie. However, the claims and expectations fell through following the movie’s release as it went on to be one of the biggest box office bombs of all time. The DC film reportedly needed to make over $400 million to break even but the movie ended up only with a $267 million box office collection.

Despite having a disappointing theatrical run, the movie is now performing really well on video-in-demand platforms, as it has taken the top spot at several digital video stores.

The FlashTops the Video on Demand Charts
Followed by the disappointed box office reception of theZachary LevistarrerShazam! Fury of the Gods, the studio had high hopes for withEzra Miller’sThe Flash. The anticipation for the movie only took heights after the release of its trailer.
However, it was not visible in the movie’s performance at the box office. Grossing $267 million against a budget of over $200 million, the 2023 film was deemed one of the worst box office flops. Warner Bros. reportedly met a loss of around $200 million at the box office.

However, seems like the movie is finally making up for those losses through the video-on-demand platforms. The film is topping the charts on several VOD platforms, including iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu. It is available for $19.99 on several platforms.
Something similar happened withDwayne Johnson’sBlack Adam. While the movie was not as bad as the Ezra Miller starrer, it also underperformed at the box office. With an approximate loss of $50 to $100 million, the movie was number one on several VOD platforms.

Future DC Projects Also Expected to Underperform
With the constant underperforming and box office failures, withBlack Adam, Shazam! 2,andThe Flash, the upcoming movies under the DC banner are also expected to fail at the box office. According to the projections of the Box Office Pro, the next film under DC,Blue Beetle,is expected to open with around $12-17 million domestically.
Not just that, the movie is also projected to have the DCEU’s lowest box office opening so far. As forAquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster is also expected to suffer due to its ties with the DCEU and the 2023 Ezra Miller starrer.

It is also expected to suffer the consequences of the controversy surrounding theAquamanactress Amber Heard and the ongoing changes taking place at the studio for the past few months. Aquaman and the Flash, are still not confirmed to be a part of James Gunn’s DCU.
The Flashis available on VOD platforms.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis set to release on 09 August 2025.
