Robert Downey Jr. has done some of the most significant roles by making Iron Man so iconic that there can be no other actor who fans can even imagine playing the character. He even worked around a way to make many fans adore his Sherlock Holmes as well. His talent has spread across various genres, whether comedy, action, or thriller.
His roles have all managed to leave a mark, despite the movie working or not. There are moments when a lot of movies do not work out for actors. However, in these instances, those who left the particular movie behind may take a breath of fresh air. Downey too found himself in a similar position, with a Daniel Craig movie nonetheless.

Robert Downey Jr. Opted Out Of A Harrison Ford Movie
Robert Downey Jr.and Jon Favreau have worked in some of the most iconic Marvel movies. WithIron ManandIron Man 2becoming the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both of them created a strong bond. Not all of the movies of Favreau have been successful. This includesCowboys and Aliens.The movie starred Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. However, it was majorly disliked by critics and fans.
The movie was not liked at all and barely made any profit with the total box office earnings being only $174 Million. While the number in itself is pretty big, as compared to its $163 Million budget, it was barely anything. Surprisingly enough, the role of Jake Lonergan, Craig’s role, was first offered to Robert Downey Jr. Although he was open to working with Favreau again, his dedication toSherlock Holmeskept him from doing so. The actor was supposed to take on the role but he had already signed up forSherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.It’s safe to say that he might just have dodged a bullet.

Robert Downey Jr. has been offered a big range of roles even before he took over the cinema as Tony Stark. Today he stands strong as one of the biggest Hollywood actors, however, he has let go of some massive roles beforehand. FromTop GuntoEdward Scissorhands,Downey gave up some really successful roles as well.
Roles like Michael Keaton’s Batman and Will Farrell’s Megamind were all almost the Downey’s. All of these roles were either too soon for him or just not right, finding someone else better suited for them. Either way, it was because of these losses that he managed to become Iron Man.
