Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark went through an amazing character arc in the firstIron Manmovie which is one of the biggest reasons for the film’s success and Marvel’s grand launch. However, the new edition from Marvel Comics,Avenger #7, deviates from one of his iconic character arcs, as the Avenger desperately attempts to save the universe from the cosmic supervillain Anti-All and its children.
In the recently released edition, Iron Man and other Avengers are trapped in an illusion where Anti-All unleashes destruction upon the planet, and they are at war to avenge their fallen planet and lost friends including Vision. Tony Stark sacrifices his personal values to develop a war armor to fight the supervillain.

Marvel Comics Just Did What Robert Downey Jr. Never Imagined To Do With Iron Man
InIron Man,Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark is introduced as a weapons engineer who inherited Stark Industries, the biggest weapons manufacturer in the country. The opening scenes show Stark in war-torn Afghanistan where he is demonstrating his company’s new Jericho missile. As he returns, his convoy is attacked, and he is critically injured by one of the attacker’s missiles and kidnapped by them. But what hurt him more was to find out that it was one of his own missiles that the attackers used.
When Stark escapes the terrorists using his arc reactor-powered armor and returns to America, he announces his decision to cease weapons manufacturing. Fans witnessed how the billionaire playboy privatized world peace with the help of his Iron Man suit. Downey Jr. never let his character deviate from this path in the entire MCU, even during the events ofAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers: Endgame.
However, Marvel Comics took the bold step of deviating from thisIron Mancharacter arc in its latest issue,Avengers #7. The Avengers are trapped in horrific illusions of reality by Nightmare where Anti-All has unleashed destruction upon the world and Vision is dead. They are forced to sacrifice their all to save the earth which includes some of their personal values.
Tony Stark especially has to don the suit of armor that embodies war, something which he never dared to go back to all this time. Comic book Stark left his weapon engineering days behind inIron Man #49issue. As the new edition describes, war was“his first addiction, his first vice”. He turned himself into a weapon to avoid war, but Nightmare’s illusion forced him to unload every deadly weapon possible, creating the war armor.

Iron Man’s New Armor Is Deadlier Than His Other Armors
With his passion for technology, Tony Stark has developed several suits after his first Mark I armor to stay ahead of the curve. His most powerful weapons include the Godkiller MK II which was designed to fight the Celestials, the Godbuster Armor which was developed in a virtual environment, and the Cosmic Iron God Armor with which he became an Iron God on par with Silver Surfer.
However, the new war armor is deadlier than most of his powerful suits just because of what Iron Man had to sacrifice in unloading the armor. With Robert Downey Jr. rumored to return as Iron Man in theMultiverse Saga, fans expect to see his new multiversal suits in action. However, fans may never see Iron Man in movies donning war armor as Downey Jr. would never let that happen to his character.
