Though the year 2020 has not been a great one for the MCU movies, Marvel Studios has been aggressively making strides on the television front. The launch of Disney+ platform has provided Marvel Studios to expand its universe on the smaller screen. And now, legendary actor Samuel Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in a separate series for the streaming platform.

In an exclusive forVariety, it has been confirmed that veteran actor Samuel Jackson shall be returning to play the role of Nick Fury in the upcoming series for Disney+. The former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury made his debut in the post-credits scene ofIron Man(2008) to introduce the Avengers Initiative. A major character in MCU’s Phase One, Nick Fury brought together Iron Man and Captain America to fight Loki and his army of Chitauri in the Battle of New York inAvengers(2012).

Earlier, it was speculated that the upcoming Nick Fury series would have a different actor playing the role as the show was planned to depict the life of a young Nick Fury, raring to prove himself. However, roping in Samuel Jackson is a pleasant surprise as the upcoming show will now focus on the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s adventures in the present era, since S.H.I.E.L.D. no longer exists.

However, his role became limited to cameos postThe Winter Soldier, as the Avengers started fighting more extra-terrestrial threats. Nick Fury did return once again inCaptain Marvel(2019), which also finally explained his damaged eye.
The exact plot details of the upcoming show are currently under wraps, but multiple sources have stated that the acclaimed screenwriter, Kyle Bradstreet is attached to the show as the screenwriter and executive producer. Kyle Bradstreet is known for his work on the critically acclaimed showMr. Robot, for which he won the Writers Guild of America Award for Television: New Series.

Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. Known for playing unpredictable and violent characters, Samuel L. Jackson quickly rose to fame for his role in Quentin Tarantino’sPulp Fictionin 1994. As a frequent collaborator with Tarantino, Samuel L. As S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty much finished in the MCU, it won’t be shocking to see Nick Fury heading a similar organization namedS.W.O.R.D.(Sentient World Observation and Response Department) which made its appearance in the first trailer ofWandaVision.Yet, the main question remains, can Disney altogether avoid Samuel L. Jackson’s famous phrase which was abruptly cut inAvengers: Infinity War?
