Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is less than a month away and has already gone gold, now all fans can do is wait and speculate what the experience will be like. We recently discovered more details about the exchange between Peter and Miles across the map of New York, such as the situation of a chance meeting between the partners while fighting crime. The problem is that everything good has its other side because this free exchange that players can make is limited to the hours of the day when they are dressed in their web suits and not as ordinary citizens of New York.

Masks Should Barely Come Off Peter and Miles’ Faces in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Due to Character Switch
The long-awaited sequel to the titular title that now includes both Peter and Miles as playable protagonists and to make the most of this dynamic, Insomniac included a mechanic desired by fans of a free exchange of control between the spideys. We recently learned that a player could find the other Spider-Man as an NPC on the New York map, the only problem is that this exchange and these encounters are limited in development.
You will not be able to change to or meet your partner while they are in their civilian ID without the vigilante costumes and masks. This does not mean that the exchange will be blocked at certain times, but that a common citizen’s routine will not be as natural due to this new feature. It’s natural for gamers to fill the moments they aren’t seeing with their creativity, imagining, for example, that Miles is having dinner with Rio and Ganke while Peter foils a criminal robbery.

Unfortunately, all this creativity will not be matched byMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, because Peter and Miles must always be ready for action when the player wants to switch between them. This is in no way an error or negligence on the part of Insomniac, but rather a lack of technical resources to develop this new mechanic that the developer is experimenting with so thoroughly. Although, perhaps with more time or investment they could create introductory scenes for the exchange moments as happened inGTA V, for example.
At the same time, inserting a cutscene into the gameplay could also harm the flow of action, it is indeed a double-edged sword. Jacinda Chew, senior art director at Insomniac, spoke to GamesRadar+ about this switching between Miles and Peter through the open world of New York City:“If it’s a player-controlled switch, which happens in the open world, because it’s in gameplay then you’ll be in your suit,”

In addition to the exchange itself, the meeting that could happen between the heroes fighting crime, even resulting in a collaborative action scene, will remain behind the scenes because Peter and Miles will not be seen wandering around like ordinary NPCs. Although the limitation will frustrate the most imaginative fans, this is for the good as the web-swinging partner will always be ready to jump into action.
It is not known whether this limitation happened due to lack of time or money or by the developers’ choice, but Insomniac, unlike other companies, at least for now, has never left something to be desired, so it’s up to all of us to play to see how everything on theMarvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s gameplay will work to warm the hearts of fans like the first one already managed. So, web heads who will be web-swinging on launch day, mark October 20th on your calendars and save your PlayStation 5 storage.
