Payday 3is a first-person shooter game developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Deep Silver. The game received mixed reviews from critics, with a MetaScore of 67. The user score was where the game took a hit, with the game only scoring 3.0, meaning it was generally unfavourable.
Upon launch, the game had various issues, including server failure due to a massive influx of players. This meant that the game was unplayable as it was online-only. At launch, the game attracted almost 1.3 million players.
After the server issues were fixed, players were still waiting for the first title update forPayday 3. The update was initially aimed for release in early October but was delayed. As reported by the studio, it was due to a critical failure in the update pipeline. Finally, the update was released forPayday 3on November 2, along with a massive list of improvements, updates, and bug fixes for the game.
In September 2023, it became the fifth and sixth bestselling game in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively. This was due to the game’s predecessor,Payday 2, being a highly rated game by users and critics.
Payday 3 Patch 1.01: General Changes in the Update’s Changelog
The update size was 2.0 GB, including a host of fixes in the General, Balance, and Technical domains ofPayday 3. The entire changelog was posted on the game’s official website. The beginning of the changelog also had this statement from the developers:
Hello heisters!After some instability, we’re finally up and running as things should be! Heisters heisting, civilians screaming and cops floundering!
The statement continued:
We’ve got a lot more cooking,keep letting us know when you find bugs and sending us your suggestions!
The developers also included a hyperlink to a feature- upvote website where players can suggest features themselves. Players can also upvote a feature request if they resonate with it.
Including all of the patch notes is not feasible, but here are some fundamental changes to the gameplay and fixes made to the game which will affect players’ experiences:
Payday 3 Patch: Gameplay Balancing Changes and Technical Fixes
The first update forPayday 3also included some gameplay balancing changes and technical fixes. Since the game is, in essence, a shooter, gameplay balancing is required from time to time to keep things fresh.
It also ensures that the game stays enjoyable for novices and veterans. The developers stated that they are aware of specific overpowered mechanics in the game. But this did not cut off the first patch. The first patch focused on minor issues and adjustments to the game. Their statement read:
We are aware that Last Man Standing and Armor Up are performing a bit too well, so we plan to give them a few tweaks that keep them effective…
…but require a bit more setup compared to the benefits they offer.This will be in the next big patch. Outside of these two skills, we don’t expect any big nerfs coming to skills in the next patch
Despite this, the statement also concluded with the assurance that the game’s meta is being closely observed for further updates and game-balancing changes. Some points regarding how armour is the most sought-after resource were also mentioned.

Now that the first title update for the game has gone live, perhaps the game will receive better reviews on platforms like Steam. That is because, even after the first title update, the game’s reviews still stand at ‘Mixed.’
TheSteam chartsfor the game currently stand at a meagre 2400, while the previous instalment has a player count of more than 27 thousand! Things don’t seem too promising for the game, but hopefully they will improve over time.
