Over the years, a number of well-known filmmakers have disparaged superhero and Marvel films, but recent remarks made by Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino grabbed headlines, and one specific MCU actor was left feeling somewhat dejected by what he heard.

As one might expect, this criticism hasn’t received a lot of support from those who really make Marvel movies, including Chris Hemsworth, theGod of Thunder.

Chris Hemsworth Takes Quentin Tarantino And Martin Scorsese Marvel Criticisms Personally

The Australian actor, who debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011 with the lead role in Kenneth Branagh’sThor, was recently asked by GQ about the opinions Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese have expressed about the MCU. It is obvious from his forthright response that he takes the criticism personally.

He also voiced worry that his time in the MCU would prevent him from ever getting the chance to work with two filmmakers he views in the highest regard.

Martin Scorsese

“That’s super depressing when I hear that,” Hemsworth told British GQ about Scorsese and Tarantino’s thoughts about actors in MCU films. “There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me.”

“I’m thankful that I have been a part of something that kept people in cinemas,” he continued. “Now, whether or not those films were to the detriment of other films, I don’t know. I don’t love when we start scrutinizing each other when there’s so much fragility in the business and this space of the arts as it is.”

Quentin Tarantino

Hemsworth stated that Tarantino and Scorsese are still his heroes and that he would leap at the chance to work with any of them in a heartbeat. “However, I speak more to the general consensus on that subject. We’re trying, but I don’t think any of us know the solution,” said Hemsworth.

What Martin Scorsese And Quentin Tarantino Said About Marvel Movies?

Martin Scorsese has earlier spoken out against Marvel movies, claiming that he hasn’t seen them and doesn’t think they qualify as cinema.

Scorsese stated that the blockbuster series of comic book films didn’t necessarily qualify as cinema. “I said that I’ve tried to watch a few of them and that they’re not for me, that they seem to me to be closer to theme parks than they are to movies as I’ve known and loved them throughout my life, and that in the end, I don’t think they’re cinema,” Scorsese wrote in a New York Times piece published in 2019

“It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being,” he added.

Quentin Tarantino is the newest well-known director to draw criticism for his unfavorable remarks about films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or more specifically, their effects on the box office.

In his customary forthright way, Tarantino said to Tom Segura on his podcast,

“I don’t love them. No, I don’t. I don’t hate them. But I don’t love them. I mean, look, I used to collect Marvel comics like crazy when I was a kid. There’s an aspect that if these movies were coming out when I was in my twenties, I would totally be f*cking happy and totally love them. [But] they wouldn’t be the only movies being made, they would be those movies amongst other movies. I’m almost 60 so I’m not quite as excited about them.”

“So it’s just the fact that they are the entire representation of this era of movies right now. There’s not really much room for anything else. That’s my problem. It’s a problem of representation,” Tarantino said.

Nobody seems to have reached a consensus on whether or not MCU films are actually bad for cinema as a whole, despite the fact that this discussion about Marvel being pitted against cinema has proven to be remarkably durable.

Currently,Chris Hemsworthis preparing for his upcoming movie Extraction 2. On June 16, it will be made available on Netflix digitally. The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, which also stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Tom Burke, will be his next film appearance.
