Anime is mainly praised for its high-quality animation and detailed art styles. However, there have been times when the animation takes a trip to the south. Audiences aren’t fans of CGI-based animation due to its infrequent use in anime. CGI is known to be low quality and ruins the scenes when it comes on the screen. It can likewise be a sign of a cheap, altogether low-effort production when it’s used to animate the entire series.

One of the best examples of this is the 2016 version ofBerserk. The reboot version of the anime adapted the manga’s 2D into 3D animation. Despite the impeccable visuals from Miura’s art style, the CGI-based animation surely took a toll on the series’ reputation. The show went from an iconic classic into a laughing stock.

Fans say the visuals of Berserk 2016 were unequivocally good
Fans have been expressing a diverse range of reactions. People appreciate the visuals as unequivocally good and add that they precede the original ’97 adaptation. However, there are other people who are commenting on the ups and downs of the animation. The usual criticism is about having computer-generated graphics.
Anime and CGI never went hand in hand. However, it’s not impossible to nail anime-styled CGI, as seen with theGuilty Gearseries, which made the transition from spectacular 2D to equally astonishing 3D. Fans might argue that Miura’s highly intricate art style is difficult to render, but it’s not completely impossible. Fans appreciated the stellar visuals of the series while the animation, on its part, took a ride downhill.

The CGI animation of theBerserkreboot was ridiculously stilted and stiff. Everything was outright terrible, whether it be the characters’ motions or simple interactions between characters. The protagonist of the series was animated in such a way that it appeared like Guts was in a constant state of constipated aggression, while his mouth movements were so basic they were Muppet-like.

A prominent sequence that can be used as an example is the protagonist walking away from a group of people while talking. His movement has been laid out like Guts being shifted away frame-by-frame, and his mouth’s animation is comparable to South Park. Later releases of the series would slightly improve the animationfor this scene in particular. However, all the damage was already inflicted upon the series’ brand.
