Hideki Kamiya, the creator and director ofBayonetta, announced earlier this year that he is leaving PlatinumGames, and there were several questions raised about how the popular franchise will move forward without its creator. The fans went on to ask this question to Hideki Kamiya on his YouTube channel, and he revealed to them that the franchise will“possibly”continue even without him.

Bayonetta Director and Creator Hideki Kamiya Believes the Franchise Will Continue
Hideki Kamiya was one of the founders of PlatinumGames and was with the company for around 16 years. His departure announcement came as a shock to him and the franchise’s fans, and it was very clear that it did not end well between him and the company; therefore, questions about the future of the franchise were raised.
Hideki Kamiya finally spoke about this on hisYouTubechannel in the latest“Kamiya Responds to Your Comments!”video, where he answered several other questions, includingBayonetta‘s future. A fan commented and asked what would happen to theBayonettafranchise now.

He revealed that the franchise will“probably”keep going. He also said that he had plans for the series and its growth but would now need to take them to his grave. Here’s what he stated:
I’ve talked about this in various interviews that the Bayonetta series would consist of nine episodes, and I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta ‘Saga’, but it seems I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me. It’s a shame. It’s not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.

Kamiya has previously also spoken about the franchise’s future, but he was with PlatinumGames at the time. Back in December 2022, Hideki Kamiya spoke about the franchise and said he“can’t conceive of the series ever ending”and intended to makeBayonetta 4and5. Kamiya stated:
I personally can’t conceive the Bayonetta series ever ending. I want to make a Bayonetta 4 and Bayonetta 5, and I intend on pitching them to the company. We often talk internally about how we could make nine of them.

It is still not clear why Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames after being there for over one and a half decades. Although he made it clear that he wasn’t retiring when such rumors appeared after the announcement of his departure, he simply stated,“I wanted to follow my beliefs as a game creator and to choose the path I think is right and move on.”
The most recent game in the franchise,Bayonetta 3,was well-received by both fans and critics and earned a Metascore of 86. Although some aspects of the game, such as story and level designs, were criticized by fans, it was nothing major to hold back the title. He also addressed the rumors that he wasn’t deeply involved withBayonetta 3,saying that people got the wrong impression and that he was“indeed deeply involved.”

Kamiya also revealed that he wasn’t the director of the latest game but was the director of the first one. However, he later “stepped back” and took on the role of supervisor onBayonetta 2and3,but still took care of the story and character settings to keep theBayonettauniverse consistent. He later added that he did the same work withOrigins: Cereza and the Lost Demontitle in the franchise.
Despite his impressive work on the franchise, it is highly unlikely that Kamiya will be working onBayonettatitles anymore after his exit from PlatinumGames. There is still no information about the next game in the series, and despite Kamiya assuring fans of new games in the series, nothing can be said for certain until PlatinumGames comments on it.
