Marvel Studios’ latest movie,The Marvels, may go down as the biggest disappointment in the franchise’s history. It seems like not even actress Brie Larson’s stardom could save the film from being a massive financial failure. 2008’sThe Incredible Hulkhad the lowest domestic opening ever for a Marvel movie with $55.4 million. As per sources,The Marvelsis expected to take that title fromThe Incredible Hulkas it is projected to earn between $47-55 million on its opening weekend.

This is quite disappointing as the previous installment in the series, 2019’sCaptain Marvel, grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark. Things are clearly not looking good for Marvel as their latest movie had a production budget of $220-270 million. The film could possibly be one of the biggest financial losses for Marvel Studios.

The Marvelsmay break this humiliating record set byThe Incredible Hulk

As perDeadline, 2023’sThe Marvelsis projected to earn between $47-55 million on its opening weekend. If the projection turns out to be true, the film will have the lowest domestic opening ever for a Marvel movie. Previously, 2008’sThe Incredible Hulkhad the lowest domestic opening ever for a Marvel movie with $55.4 million, followed by 2015’sAnt-Man, which earned $57.2 million on its opening weekend.

While the film plays a crucial role in setting up the franchise, fans are refusing to go to the theatres. Unfortunately, evenBrie Larson‘s stardom cannot fill up the theatres. The film also features Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, alongside Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Did Marvel spoilThe Marvelswith its trailer?

A featurette forThe Marvels, which was dropped in October, revealed the outcome of the battle against Dar-Benn. The featurette has this one particular shot that reveals that Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel have defeated Dar-Benn.

In the film, Dar-Benn has a mystical bangle (similar to Ms. Marvel’s bangle) that causes the new trio to switch places. In the featurette, Captain Marvel can be seen holding it and in the same shot, we get to see Ms. Marvel wearing her own bangle as well. So this featurette confirmed that Dar-Benn will be defeated at the end of the film. This was a major problem as Marvel gave away an important point that would’ve lured the fans into the theatres.
