WatchingThe Big Bang Theory, almost all of us had a great time. It does remind us of the early 20s and the struggle. The CBS sitcom was not appreciated at first, during the first pilot. While it had an offensive and awkward scene with Jim Parsons, it even had a character both of which were replaced later during the reruns.

Both the executive producers Bill Prady and Chuck Lorre were disappointed as the fans didn’t go along with the story and a few characters. And so the show had to go through major cuts and reruns, introducing the second pilot of the sitcomThe Big Bang Theory.

Jim Parson was fine with the sperm bank scene from the first pilot

Jim Parsons, who played the role of Sheldon Cooper was all good with his scene which was shot in a sperm bank, in the first pilot episode. However, this scene was later removed from the reruns. The creators regretted this opening scene, as both the star characters seemed to be a little off and nothing like the characters we are familiar with now.

As for Jim Parson, he was fine with the later deleted sperm bank scene. During his interview as perDigital Spy,he said:

Kaley Cuoco as Penny

“At the time, the sperm bank scene didn’t bother me. Looking back, it was out of place, but there was no way for the producers to know…”

Further also adding about his character:

“Nobody knew who Sheldon was yet, so the live audience accepted it for what it was. But it is confusing information now, and I get why Chuck took it out of syndication because the episode is much stronger and more special without it,”

The actor said that though initially, he did not see a problem with the scene, he later realized how it did not fit the bigger picture. He called the decision to remove it from the series a wise one.

Major changes that were made in the reruns

The original cast of the popular sitcom was not the same. As there was no Penny played byKaley Cuocoin the show, instead they had Katie. Katie was a character who was rough on both Sheldon and Leonard.

During an interview withEW,Bill Prady, one of the creators ofThe Big Bang Theorysaid:

“Who knows what I’d be doing now”: Pirates of the Caribbean Star Credits Ricky Gervais, Not Johnny Depp for Turning His Life Around

“In the first pilot, the female character (who, at that point, was named Katie) is kind of rough. She’s dangerous in a way and wasn’t very nice to the guys. I remember going to the test screening, the dial testing.”

Speaking about the reaction of the fans he said:

“They hated her, but what was amazing was that they were defending Leonard and Sheldon so much.”

And hence, Penny was introduced. Both Lorre and Prady decided to make a female character who is kind to Leonard, Sheldon, and other guys, while she also is charmed by them.

During the same interview, Lorre revealed about Sheldon and Leonard:

“We didn’t realize early on that the audience viewed them as children. They were very naive and childlike, regardless of how intelligent they were. They were very vulnerable, and the audience didn’t want a toxic presence around them. That’s why we rewrote Katie to become Penny. As opposed to a woman who would take advantage of them.”

At first, the character of Penny was played by Amanda Walsh, and as per Prady, she did a great job. While Lorre called her“terrific in the role.”

Speaking of the new character, Penny was thought to be a major risk by both Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. This was because of her differences from the main characters. But ultimately Lorre had called his decision to be a great game-changing decision.
