Actor George Clooney’s time as the dark knight is not remembered very fondly, mainly because of the disaster that was 1997’sBatman & Robin. Despite the poor critical and audience reaction to Clooney’s turn as Bruce Wayne / Batman in the film, the acclaimed actor did return to the DC Comics franchise with 2023’sThe Flash.

In a recent interview, George Clooney was quizzed about potentially suiting up in the Bat-cowl for James Gunn’s upcoming reboot of the DC Universe. However, with a hilarious comment, Clooney ruled out the possibility of returning as Batman. Here is what Clooney had to say about possibly reprising his role as Batman and whether it means the door is now shut on a potential return to the DCU.

George Clooney Rules Out Batman Return With a Hilarious Statement

Clooney was asked about the chances of him reprising the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman in James Gunn’s upcoming DCU after doing so earlier this year inThe Flash.

“I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world for me to go back there.”
George Clooney made the above statement when asked whether he could be convinced to return to the DC Comics-inspired franchise one more time. While Clooney answered the question playfully, his response suggests the actor is not inclined to return as Batman in any future projects. As a result, it is safe to assume that Clooney has firmly closed the door on any potential of reappearing as Batman despite a small section of fans wanting the actor to have another go at the caped crusader.

James Gunn’s Rebooted DCU Will Look For a Fresh Batman
In 2023, George Clooney reprised the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman for a cameo appearance in the closing moments ofThe Flash. The ending seemingly set up Clooney to return in a larger capacity for the rebooted DCU being shepherded byJames Gunn. Therefore, rumors of Clooney potentially returning as Batman emerged.
Despite the rumors of George Clooney’s potential return circulating online, James Gunn squashed them earlier in July. Gunn replied to a fan’s comment on Threads stating that Clooney will not be the DCU’s Batman. With a firm answer from Gunn, it appears as if Clooney was never in contention to play the DCU’s version of Batman. Moreover, with George Clooney himself refuting the possibility of returning to one of his least popular roles, it is safe to say that a new actor will don the Bat-cowl inThe Brave and the Boldand future projects in the DCU featuring Batman.
