Dwayne Johnson has proven his might when it comes to acting. One of the reigning kings of the box office, the actor has played multiple fan-favorite characters over his career. And the same goes for Johnny Depp, one of the most eccentric yet outstanding actors. Known best for his peculiar characters, Depp’s feat as Willy Wonka remains the most iconic.

While Depp certainly was the perfect choice for the Chocolate King, Tim Burton wanted to cast Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for the role. While it certainly would have been a bizarre choice, Johnson remained grateful for Burton to even consider him.

WhenTim Burtonwas makingCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, purists and critics were not so sure if the movie would even be watchable. But to everyone’s surprise, the movie turned out to be one of the biggest successes of the year when it was released in 2005. And the majority of the credit goes toJohnny Depp, who instead of adapting from the original work, gave the role his own twist and earned widespread praise.

So to imagine a 1.96 m tallDwayne Johnsonportraying Willy Wonka seems like the most bizarre thing in the world. But so it would have been had Johnny Depp said no. Fortunately for the movie and for Johnson, Depp agreed to play Wonka and Johnson went on his own way, soon becoming one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
Even though the project never went his way, Dwayne Johnson revealed years later that he was more than grateful for the consideration, since he wasn’t even a big star when Burton had approached him for the role.

Dwayne Johnson Is Grateful Tim Burton Even Considered Him For Willy Wonka Role
When Burton had approached Dwayne Johnson forCharlie and the Chocolate Factory, the actor had only starred in a handful of roles and hadn’t made his big break yet. So for a director like Burton to consider a new actor like Johnson meant a lot to the former wrestler, as he revealed in hisInstagrampost.
“Some cool history – back in the early 2000’s, iconic director, Tim Burton had considered me to play Willy Wonka is his remake, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I remember thinking ‘HOLY SH*T, IM IN’. But that was many years ago when I was just starting out in Hollywood with no foundation of global box office strength or any real acting experience to even pull it off… The fact that Tim even considered me (albeit I’m sure he considered for all of 7 seconds:) sure meant a helluva lot to me.. I’ll always raise a glass to the dreams that don’t come true, because sometimes they’re the best thing that never happened.”

Even though the project never took off, it would have been interesting to see the actor don a tall hat with a walking stick going around a chocolate factory.
