Tom Cruise’sMission Impossiblefranchise is one of the most well-known franchises in cinema, starting a wave of spy films ever since the release of its first part, in 1996. These films initially gained immense popularity due to their fresh take on a genre that had evolved much over its many years in cinema, providing old-fashioned cinematic thrills, which were delivered by Hollywood’s heart-throb, Cruise himself. Over the course of its many years, however, the appeal for these films changed, with fans being more invested in the stunts that were being performed by the actor in real life for the sake of the authenticity of the film.

It seems, however, that this reign of success has been slowly dying for quite some time now, with it being more and more evident with each film that comes out. This has become even more evident with the most recent addition to the franchise,Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,which had underperformed to a concerning degree. So much so, that it would seem that the people behind this project are finding it difficult to get people interested in the promised second part of this film, expected to release sometime in 2025.

Tom Cruise’sMission Impossible 7Was a Box Office Disappointment
Tom Cruise’sMission Impossiblefranchise seems to be one blunder after another, with what seems to be producers trying to save a dying franchise by throwing more and more money at it, adding expensive stunts, actors, and locations, only to get no returns in this investment. This has been especially true for the most recent part of this spy series,Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which had some extremely expensive investments, like the fact that an entire train and track was built, only for it to get destroyed for shock-factor.
The also includes the number of dangerous stunts that were performed by Tom Cruise in this movie, including riding off a cliff on a motorbike himself, six times. Despite these efforts to keep audiences invested in the franchise, they failed miserably, as according toThe Guardian, it is the second lowest-grossing film from the entire franchise, earning $567 million, which is significantly less compared to that ofMission: Impossible – Fallout.

Paramount Took A Significant Loss
With each project that comes out of this franchise, it would seem that Paramount Studios, who are behind the project, are expecting that if they put enough money into it, they will be able to bring the hype surrounding this franchise back. With this, it is concerning to find out that according toThe Guardian, the studio is expected to lose around $100 million on this film.
Looking at these numbers, along with the fact that the film has been delayed and pushed back almost a year, now is scheduled to come out on 05 June 2025, after the SAG-AFTRA strike, this might be the perfect opportunity to save this franchise. The reason for this is the fact that it gives the second part ofMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoningmore time to make the film be more profitable than its predecessor, getting a chance to add changes that could help this goal.
