James Gunn’s 10 projects strong new DCU slate renewed interest in the DC franchise. One of the most talked about films in the lineup isSwamp Thing. It’s last in the announced list but potentially the most interesting since the dark origins of the titular character will be explored in his film. However, the character’s darker beginnings are actually courtesy of it not being a part of the mainline DC comics lineup. Instead, that credit goes to the Vertigo label under DC comics for mature audiences. Now, James Gunn has indicated that Swamp Thing might not be the only character adapted into a DCU film/series from Vertigo comics. So could we seeConstantine 2andV for Vendetta 2?

Vertigo comics was founded in 1993 by American editor Karen Berger. The sub-label of DC Comics was created to tell stories that were aimed at adult/ mature audiences. As such, those comics included nudity, profanity, graphic violence, and drug use. In 2020, the label was retired and most of its content was transferred to the new DC Black Label branding.

Out of the myriad characters who call Vertigo comics their home, there has been one character who managed to achieve global popularity from its humble beginnings- John Constantine, the occult detective, and warlock.
