Michelle Yeoh’s Acclaimed Classic Served as the Inspiration for One Piece
The acclaimed martial arts classicCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which became an international sensation upon its release, was the major influence behindOne Piece‘s fight choreography. Director Marc Jobst, who did the first two episodes for Netflix’s adaptation, explained they wanted to separate their action from Marvel and walked in the footsteps of theMichelle Yeoh-led film. Another film that served as the inspiration was the 2004Kung Fu Hustle, as Jobst aimed to make the action more gritty, dark, dirty, painful, bloody, and slow-motion, especially for Emily Rudd’s action scenes.
He toldCinema Daily US:
This resulted in the casting crew hiring more fit actors for their part, following the makers’ adamancy to show the whole action instead of cutting midway and resorting to body doubles.
