Martin Scorsese’s films are among the best in the history of the art form by portraying various human conditions and complex stories that challenge human relationships and psychology. Films likeTaxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas, Casino, Shutter Island, andSilenceare prime examples of why Scorsese is a master at portraying intriguing narratives about flawed human beings who struggle with their identity or challenging societal norms.

One of the most popular films in his many collaborations with Leonardo DiCaprio isThe Wolf of Wall Street. The film told the story of Jordan Belfort, who engaged in an unprecedented amount of corruption and fraud on Wall Street. Scorsese initially didn’t want to make the film as he felt he had already done similar stories before.

Martin Scorsese Didn’t Want to Repeat Himself By DoingThe Wolf of Wall Street
After collaborating withLeonardo DiCaprioinGangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, andShutter Island,Martin Scorsesereunited with DiCaprio forThe Wolf of Wall Street. The film told the wild and extravagant story of Jordan Belfort who engaged in an enormous amount of corruption and fraud which ultimately led to his downfall later. Scorsese recently revealed that he initially did not want to do the film since he didn’t want to repeat himself as he had already done similar stories before. He toldGQ,
“Again, like Raging Bull I didn’t want to make it. But I had to find my way in and a lot of it had to do with style. The style I felt was originally was more like Goodfellas. I had done it, and I did it again in Casino. What more could I bring to it? And we found a way and that was ultimately through his character and the whole idea of untethered capitalism…I was able to play with the structure of it.”

The film turned out to be a wildly controversial film at the time of release but became a huge hit at the box office. The Scorsese- DiCaprio duo created magic every time and they are continuing the collaboration with their latest filmKillers of the Flower Moon.

Martin Scorsese Praises The Barbenheimer Phenomenon
Martin Scorsese recently talked about the success of the Barbenheimer phenomenon and the hope that is provided to the theaters and filmmakers. Although he has not seen both films, he expressed his happiness about people going out to the theatres to watch them and the films themselves for providing wholesome meaningful entertainment. He told theHindustan Times,
“I do think that the combination of Oppenheimer and Barbie was something special. It seemed to be, I hate that word, but the perfect storm. It came about at the right time. And the most important thing is that people went to watch these in a theatre. And I think that’s wonderful. I haven’t seen the films yet. I love Chris Nolan’s work. Margot Robbie, I must say, started with me from The Wolf of Wall Street. Rodrigo Prieto (cinematographer), after finishing Killers of the Flower Moon, went on to shoot Barbie. So it’s all in the family (laughs).

The way it fit perfectly – a film with such entertainment value, purely with the bright colors – and a film with such severity and strength, and pretty much about the danger of the end to our civilization – you couldn’t have more opposite films to work together. It does offer some hope for a different cinema to emerge, different from what’s been happening in the last 20 years.”
Scorsese’sKillers of the Flower Moonpromises to be the next exciting film of the year. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 28, 2025.
