He didn’t have such an inspirational fictional figure to look up to when he was a kid and hoped that the character would change that for young kids at present. An excerpt from the book reads,

“He knew just how much cultural weight came with the character. ‘When I heard I got the role I broke down in tears’ he said, ‘I realized two years from that date, some little brown boy was going to be at my door in a Falcon costume on Halloween. When I was a kid, I didn’t have that.'”

Mackie had a supporting character arc throughout the Infinity Saga. But all that changed when he became the lead of the MCU series TheFalcon and the Winter Soldier.He also became the new Captain America and is set to lead the next Captain America film next year.
