Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most well-recognized and talented actors of all time. Having starred in some of the most successful projects in Hollywood, with The Marvel Cinematic Universe, theStar Warsfranchise,Pulp Fiction, andDjango Unchainedsome examples, the actor has made a name for himself as one of the most skilled and versatile actors in the industry. He has been awarded for this skill time and time again, including receiving an Honorary Academy Award in 2021 for his dynamic performances across many genres.

Being this successful as he is, it is only natural that Jackson also holds quite a lot of influence and has never been afraid to speak his mind about anything. This also includes the actor saying what he wants to when one of his films receives bad reviews from a couple of critics.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Relationship With Critics
Samuel L. Jacksonshares quite a complicated relationship with critics, having been very vocal about the ones who give bad reviews to his films. While there have been many instances of this, the few most notable have to be when his film,The Avengers, received a bad review fromNY Timescritic AO Scott. The actor went online to tell his fans to help Scott find a new job as according to Jackson, the critic was clearly not very good at the one he already had.
‘Owen Gleiberman, Peter Travers, and all those motherf****** don’t need to watch this movie. They need to send some 13-year-old kid with f****** pimples that goes to the mall every Friday to watch movies to review this movie. We don’t need those guys talking about this movie. Send some kid to review this”He stated.

This, however, was nothing compared to the rant that Jackson went on when his 2006 film,Snakes On A Plane, did not receive the critical reception that he felt the film was worthy of. The actor went on to call the critics out by name again and say that the films that these people are giving such bad reviews to films that are very clearly not made for them, with their target audiences being children, so it is only natural that they would not like them.

Samuel L. Jackson Talks About Johnny Depp
Samuel L. Jackson then went on to bring up the example of Johnny Depp and his cult-classic franchise,The Pirates of the Caribbean. The actor stated that he finds it ridiculous that these critics are going into films like Depp’s and coming out with complaints about lack of logic and the fact that the film had pirates when in reality, these movies are made to keep reality and disbelief outside of the theater. He added that these films are made to simply be a fun time for the audiences to put themselves in the shoes of the pirates.
“Send a kid to review even ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’ Critics don’t NEED to talk about ‘Pirates.’ They KNOW they won’t like it. But movies are all about suspending that kind of disbelief and incredulity. Do you critics know how to do that? I would love to be a pirate.”he went on,“Critics can’t even get to that kind of place. Instead, it’s like: ‘Once again Johnny Depp wastes his enormous talent’? BULLS***. You know, Johnny’s having a GREAT time. He DESERVES to have a great time because sometimes he expends a lot of energy doing some serious s*** that doesn’t make but $150,000. He deserves to have fun, too … There comes a time when you just want to do some s*** and let it go.”

The reality of this, however, is that Depp must have had a lot of fun playing the character of Jack Sparrow and took the role in order to be part of a fun project rather than be immersed in a serious role that does not play him all too well according to Jackson.
