While Hollywood star Chris Evans may be synonymous with his Marvel character Captain America in the MCU films, the charismatic actor has also done a fair share of memorable roles outside of the Marvel franchise. One of the films that is an impressive addition to his filmography isSnowpiercer,directed by Korean director and Oscar winner Bong Joon-Ho. Also starring Tilda Swinton, the sci-fi action adventure followed Evans’ character who is part of a survivor group of Earth’s second ice age who struggle to live their days on a luxury train plugging through snow and ice.
Snowpierceralso had hard-hitting themes of discrimination between upper and lower classes of society as well as other potent talking points that theParasitedirector is known to tackle through his narratives. Evans, who later revealed that this film was one of the most important ones in his repertoire, confessed that he initially did not understand the nuances of the script and his director’s vision for the film and went in simply on blind trust.

Chris Evans Put His Full Faith In Bong Joon-Ho Despite His Doubts About Their FilmSnowpiercer
In 2013, Marvel starChris Evansstarred in directorBong Joon-Ho’sSnowpiercer, a sci-fi action thriller that asked a lot of important questions about humanity through its narrative. The film marked a definite departure for Evans from his usual blockbuster appearances including his Captain America gig with Marvel.
The Gray Manactor though, confessed that the nuances of the script initially went over his head. Questioning the writing and Bong Joon-Ho’s interpretations of the end of the world, Evans ultimately decided to dive headlong into the film solely based on his confidence and trust in his filmmaker’s abilities. Speaking toGQ, the actor revealed,
“Director Bong is such a visionary. When you’re working with someone that knows exactly what they want, even if it’s not exactly the way you saw it, it breeds trust. And when you have a director who is so convinced of what their vision is, that’s when you say, ‘Great. You say jump, I’ll say “How high?”‘
Snowpiercerwent on to gain Chris Evans a lot of praise for his role and performance with the actor himself considering this film as one of the best in his impressive filmography.

Chris Evans Was Inspired By Co-Star Tilda Swinton InSnowpiercer
While Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton have shared screen space as Marvel Alums in the MCU films, the two stars have also collaborated on Bong Joon-Ho’s dystopian thriller,Snowpiercer.While Evans played a human survivor who fights to stay alive, Swinton aced her role as a creepy dictator who tries to unsettle the balance. TheCaptain Americastar who openly confessed that he wasn’t fully convinced about the script and the themes in the film, took inspiration from Swinton’s complete commitment to the role and her character. In an interview toGQ,Evans said,
“You kind of have to decide what part of your brain do you spend time wrapping your head around. Do you go the intimate road and just kind of make it about the character? Do you try and make it about what it took for that society to level into that place? It’s a challenge, but you get to watch Tilda Swinton in the movie and you get to watch her approach to this larger than life character.”
Evans ultimately went with his gut instinct and drew inspiration from both veteran Oscar winners Tilda Swinton and Bong Joon-Ho, to immerse himself into the narrative. This, in retrospect, turned out to be the best decision for the actor who received praise for his performance.
